What is Holep (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate)? Holep (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) is a modern laser treatment method used to treat urinary tract problems caused by prostate enlargement (BPH). This procedure removes the enlarged tissue of the prostate using laser energy, helping the prostate return to its normal size. Compared to traditional surgical methods, Holep carries a lower risk of bleeding and offers faster recovery times for patients. The prostate tissue is either vaporized or fragmented using laser energy, thereby alleviating urinary obstruction. Holep is typically used for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men over the age of 50. This treatment is preferred when the prostate is large and other treatment methods have not been sufficient. Holep not only improves urine flow without damaging the prostate but also has less invasive effects on other organs. During the procedure, which is performed under general anesthesia, a laser fiber is inserted through the urethra into the prostate gland, and the prostate tissue is removed using laser energy. After the surgery, patients typically stay in the hospital for 1-2 days and can return to normal activities within a few weeks.
